The Island of Rhodes is the one of the sunniest places in Europe; it averages 300 days of sunshine per year. The fourth largest island in Greece - Rhodes - occupied by Italy until only 56 years ago, it is now "occupied" by thousands of enthralled international visitors.

The old city is the medieval city of Rhodes, surrounded by a high defensive wall. It is one of the few medieval cities still inhabited in its largest part, excluding its museums, of course.

Just a short distance from the Old Town, The New Town awaits your exploration. This is where the beaches lie, and where the Rhodes hotels, shops, restaurants, discotheques, and even a casino, are packed together to create a lively ambience. A walk in Rodini Park is a must. This park is perhaps the first landscaped park in the world. It is a couple of kilometers away from the Old Town, and one can see part of the ancient aqueduct system of Rhodes within it.

Rhodes Town

Walking along its cobbled streets one is reminded of iron-armored horse’s hooves clapping, and steel swords clashing and clanging.
The Italian Palace of the Grand Masters, rebuilt as a weekend resort for Italy’s dictator, Benito Mussolini, is not the most important of its buildings. The Street of the Knights; the Mosque of Suleiman; the Clock Tower; the Turkish Baths, built in 1765 and still in use; the Rhodes Archaeological Museum, built as a hospital by the Knights of St John in 1484; the old Jewish quarter and the square of the Hebrew Martyrs; the Palace of the Admirals, former residence of the Orthodox Archbishop of Rhodes; The Byzantine Museum, including a twelfth century Byzantine church in its yard (The Virgin Mary of Victory); the Decorative Arts Museum; the Ottoman Armory, and the Turkish Library are only a few of the many interesting sightseeing treasures to be seen.
Socrates Street, the main shopping street in the old town, is a shopper's paradise with jewelry, bags, clothes, pottery, embroidery, coats, and just about everything else one can think of.
When you are tired of going round in the Old Town, the New Town of Rhodes, just a short distance from the Old Town, awaits your exploration. This is where the beaches lie, and where hotels, shops, restaurants, discotheques, and even a casino, are packed together to create a lively ambience. It was developed during the 16th century, when Greeks were forbidden, under Turkish rule, to live within the walled Old Town. Most of the present day buildings date from the Italian occupation.
It has a cosmopolitan air and a splendid choice of boutiques, handcrafts, gold and silver jewelry, and pottery. Strangely enough, for an island so warm during most of the year, there are also dozens of shops selling fur coats and umbrellas! The area is simply renowned as an exciting international shopper's paradise. It is one of the most highly developed markets in Greece. The variety of goods and services offered is truly inexhaustible and will attract even the most conservative buyer.

Rhodes - Faliraki Beach

Faliraki is one of the most popular seaside resorts on Rhodes offering a good selection of entertainment, day and night. Plenty of bars and clubs have made Faliraki well known for its vigorous nightlife, and so it has attracted a younger crowd over the years. However, it also offers beautiful beaches (there’s also a nudist’s beach) and a wide variety of water sports, which makes this resort attractive to all ages. There is also a good selection of up-market hotels offering a wide variety of activities, along with first-rate services and facilities, private sections of the beach, and incredible views from the rooms.
Faliraki has an ideal location, only 14 kilometers to Rhodes Town and 10 kilometers to the airport, and, for a bit of variety, there are several other small bays within walking distance, plus the Bay of Kalithea to the north, and Ladiko to the south.

Rhodes - Ixia Beach

The growing and popular resort of Ixia Beach is only few kilometers north of Ialyssos and south of Rhodes Town. There’s a very good assortment of resort hotels of all classes, each having their own private stretch of organized beach. The town itself offers a good selection of restaurants and tavernas, small shops and supermarkets, and Rhodes Town is only 4 kilometers away for major shopping and nightlife. At Ixia, you’ll find a few public beaches, mostly organized private beaches, and water sports facilities, especially for windsurf and jet ski.

Rhodes - Lindos Village Resort

No visit to Rhodes is complete without visiting Lindos. You'll find Lindos at a distance of 55 kilometers from Rhodes town, on the eastern side of the island. Built in the 12th Century B.C., it is now a top class resort, with a fine sandy beach and a tiny lagoon, which reflects the whitewashed houses and the Lindos Acropolis above. The village contains many houses dating from the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries, which are known as "the houses of the captains". Their architecture and decoration are unique in the Greek world.

Rhodes - Archangelos Village

If you’re traveling south from Rhodes Town and along the east coast of the island, you’ll find the third largest town on the island called Archangelos, named after Archangel Michael. This inland hillside town (160 meters above sea level) boasts of a population of just under 8,000 inhabitants, who are primarily involved in farming, agriculture and tourism. Additionally, the town has a long history of pottery making, which continues today.
The town itself is a collection of smaller hamlets, some of which date to the Hellenistic period. There are the ruins of a medieval fortress (1454), built by the Knights Hospitallers, and further inland near Laerma, you’ll find the Monastery of Thari, one of the most significant Byzantine monuments on the island, and dedicated to Archangel Michael.
